Top Beautiful Ao Dai Photoshoot Locations in Houston

You've just bought or rented a beautiful ao dai, now you need to find a suitable location for your photoshoot? In Houston, I often recommend a few places to customers who visit AMVI Northwest or AMVI Bellaire — places with beautiful light, fewer crowds, and no entrance fee.

Hermann Park — Choose early morning or late afternoon

This is the most frequently mentioned location by my customers. Hermann Park is spacious, featuring McGovern Lake, a Japanese bridge, and is close to the Museum District, so you can visit a few more places after your shoot. I suggest going between 7–8 AM or after 4 PM, when the light is softer and there are fewer people compared to midday. It can be crowded on weekends, so if you prefer quiet, choose a Tuesday or Wednesday morning.

The area near the Japanese Garden often has wedding photoshoots. If you don't want to wait, head towards Miller Outdoor Theatre — a large grassy area with tall trees, suitable for any type of shot.

Discovery Green — In the heart of Downtown

Located right in the city center, Discovery Green is convenient if you're near Downtown or want to combine your photoshoot with a skyscraper background. This park has a small lake, stone steps, and a relatively flat artificial lawn. It's a maximum 30-minute drive from the AMVI Bellaire store, so many customers try on ao dai and then head straight there for a few shots.

Note: in the evening, the park has yellow lights, so if you're shooting at night, you'll need a good camera or to adjust the ISO high. During the day, it's best from 9–10 AM, before the sun gets too harsh.

Buffalo Bayou Park — Riverside and bridges

If you want photos with water, suspension bridges, or the distant Houston skyline, Buffalo Bayou is a good choice. The section from Sabine Promenade to Rosemont Bridge has a long walking trail with many different photo angles. On weekends, there are quite a few cyclists and joggers, so if you're shooting ao dai, it's best to go early in the morning before 8 AM.

Remember to wear comfortable shoes, as some sections of the path are a bit steep and gravelly.

Rice University Campus — Classic architecture, fewer people

Rice University's campus has many beautiful architectural buildings, arched gates, and tree-lined pathways — perfect for traditional ao dai or wedding ao dai. I've had customers do wedding photoshoots here, and they said it's much quieter than public parks. Go on a weekday (not during exam season) and avoid dismissal times (around 3–5 PM).

There's no entrance fee, but if you're bringing a lot of equipment, you should check Rice.edu for policies on commercial photography.

Choosing the right ao dai for the location

If you're shooting in a park with green grass, red, white, or pastel ao dai will stand out. If you're shooting Downtown with glass buildings, black or navy ao dai can create a stronger contrast. At AMVI, customers can try on many colors directly at the Northwest or Bellaire stores to see which color suits their skin tone and photoshoot idea.

For customers who need an urgent photoshoot within a few days, I have ready-made ao dai in various sizes. If you have more time — about 2–3 weeks — you can order a custom-made ao dai for a perfect fit down to every detail.

Notes when renting or buying ao dai for a photoshoot

Many people ask whether to rent or buy. If you're only shooting once, renting will be more economical. But if you plan to wear it on a few other occasions — Tet, birthdays, friends' weddings — then buying is more convenient.

AMVI ships nationwide in the US with a flat shipping fee of $10 per order, so even if you're in Austin, Dallas, or California, you can still place an order. Customers in Texas will have an additional 8.25% sales tax; other states are tax-exempt.

If you're in Houston and want to try it on directly, visit AMVI Northwest or AMVI Bellaire to see the colors, fabric, and how the ao dai drapes on you. I also have a virtual ao dai try-on tool on the aodaiamvi.com website if you want to visualize it before coming. I wish you a beautiful ao dai photoshoot in Houston!
